Alabama Speedball (Recognizing Stimulant and Narcotic Impairment)

This free course is designed to teach officers about cues which may emerge when contacting a driver impaired by Central Nervous System Stimulants or Narcotic Analgesics. Both drug categories and their combination arefrequently observed in drugged driving cases in Alabama. At the conclusion of this course, officers will be able to better recognize the different types of CNS Stimulants and
Narcotic Analgesics as well as common methods of administration, duration of effects, and other signs and symptoms of impairment which may emerge during traffic contacts.

Topics Include:
• Recognizing common drugs
• Impairment clues presented by users
• Drug methods of administration and duration of effects
• Field sobriety tests and their relationship to
impairment by drugs
• How to properly investigate, document and
prepare effective cases for prosecution

Audience:
This course is intended to most greatly benefit patrol officers, DUI investigators, Traffic Homicide
Investigators, prosecutors, and judges who would like to learn more about drugged driving.
**Attendance is limited to APSOTC certified law enforcement and active judges and prosecutors.**

Course Length:
Four (4) hours. Approved for 4 APOSTC CEUs.
