
The firearms safety course put on by the Dothan Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office covers Alabama gun law, the fundamentals of marksmanship and gun safety. Participants must bring their own firearm.
Alabama gun law discusses permits, places where guns are not permitted like courthouses and mental health facilities and specific laws regarding physical force.
Fundamentals of marksmanship covers gun fundamentals like grip and stance, trigger control and breathing. Proper sight alignment and aim technique will also be discussed. Gun safety addresses loaded and unloaded gun safety, best practices at a shooting range and safety at home including topics like where to store a gun and a safety routine.
EACH APPLICANT MUST FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW.
EACH APPLICANT MUST BRING THEIR OWN FIREARM WITH APPROPRIATE AMMUNITION.
